At Leek Radio, we take pride in celebrating diversity and inclusivity in all forms, including age. Our station boasts a team of presenters from all walks of life, with our eldest presenter, Derek Walker, being 84 years old this coming June. On the other end of the age spectrum, our youngest presenter Alicia is just 10 years old.
Derek Walker is a former rocket scientist for the British version of NASA, and he has a wealth of life experience that he brings to the table. He has run community markets and has been involved in various other endeavors throughout his life. Despite his age, Derek is still active and loves to have guests on his show. He enjoys speaking to anyone and everyone, and his passion for local news is evident in his Tuesday "Derek's Dinner Time Show" from 12 pm til 2 pm, where he reads local news from our local papers and keeps listeners up to date on local goings-on.
In addition to his Tuesday show, Derek also hosts a "Jazz, Big Band & Swing" show on Sunday evenings from 7 pm to 9 pm. This show features music that helped shape the music we listen to today, played by a chap who was there for most of it.
we believe in celebrating all ages, and that includes our youngest presenter, Alicia (10), who is supported by her dad, Alastair. They are both volunteer presenters, just like Derek, and bring a unique perspective to our station.
Alicia's youthful enthusiasm and innocence add a fun and playful energy to her shows. She hosts the Saturday morning Kids Breakfast Show from 10 am to 12 pm, where she plays her kind of music and shares stories that are sure to put a smile on the faces of our younger & older listeners,
Alastair, Alicia's dad, also volunteers as a presenter and brings a wealth of "sound" knowledge and experience to our station. He hosts shows on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 am to 12 noon & is a well-known, local event DJ, sound engineer & entrepreneur whose company GD Sounds was an "English Wedding Awards 2022" Finalist.
We are proud to have presenters of all ages and backgrounds at Leek Radio, each bringing their unique perspective to Air Waves. We believe that everyone has something to offer, and we encourage everyone to share their passions and interests with our listeners.
