New Community Lottery Launched In The Staffordshire Moorlands With £25k Top Prize!

Tickets are now on sale for the new Staffordshire Moorlands Community Lottery – the exciting fundraising initiative launched by the District Council which is set to benefit community groups and organisations across Moorlands.

Almost 30 local groups, ranging from nursery and pre-school groups to community choirs, foodbanks and children’s and baby libraries, arts groups, and local charities, have already registered and will keep 50% of the money raised from each ticket they sell.

A further 10% from each ticket sold will go to a central fund that will support more good causes with the remainder being put towards prizes and operating costs.

Tickets for the weekly prize draw cost £1 and players are in with a chance of winning the jackpot of £25,000. Prizes of £2,000, £250 and £25 are also available.

The first draw will take place online on Saturday 29 July when an iPad is also being offered as a prize to celebrate the launch of the lottery.

Councillor Bill Cawley, Cabinet member for Communities, said:

“We’re now at the exciting stage where people can buy tickets and support the good cause, or causes, of their choice - which is great news for all those that have registered to benefit from this community lottery. It will support groups and organisations across the Moorlands with much-needed funding to help them continue the fantastic work they’re doing in our communities. “We’re delighted that almost 30 good causes have already signed up but there’s room for plenty more! If you think it would help you with your fund-raising, please get in touch with us so we can register you and add you to the growing list of organisations the lottery is set to help.”

It’s open to any eligible not-for-profit group or organization in the District such as charities, sports clubs, arts groups, schools and PTAs, and social enterprises. Groups and organizations yet to register can contact Victoria.Ellis@staffsmoorlands.gov.uk for help and advice.

A Spokes Person From Leek Radio CIC, A Not-For-Profit Community Radio Station Based In Leek Town Centre, Had This to Say About The New Community Lottery:

"We Think This Is A Fantastic Idea That Will Help Local Groups To Raise Much Needed Funds. Rather Than Join The Community Lottery As Resellers Ourselves, We've Decided That We Would Much Rather Support Our Local Community Instead. So This Year We Will Support & Promote The Lottery For "Leek Community Children's & Baby Library" & Each Year Promoting A Different Community Groups Lottery Pages.

Tickets cost just £1 a week and for every £1 you spend, 50p Goes directly to "Leek Community Children's and Baby Library"
